Algeria Used Car Demand Report 2026: Five Shifts Buyers Should Know About
If you are importing a used car into Algeria this year, the list of models on offer has not changed much. What has changed is where the money is going, and that is worth understanding before you commit to a unit.
We cannot describe the whole Algerian market. We can describe what Algerians asked us. Between 1 January and 17 September 2026, 36,501 Algerian buyers contacted APXAUTO, roughly half of every buyer who contacted us anywhere in the world over the same period. Their messages show five shifts that should change how you plan an order this quarter.
1. The centre of gravity moved down-market
In July the most-named models in our inbox were still the mid-range ones: Audi A3 204, Audi Q3 193, Golf 183 and T-Roc 179.
By August the top four had a different shape: Golf 110, T-Roc 81, and then two entry-price names entering the group for the first time: T-Cross 39 and Geely 36. September through the 17th kept the same pattern: T-Roc 53, Golf 47, Geely 18, T-Cross 15.
| Window | Audi A3 | Volkswagen Golf | Volkswagen T-Roc | Geely | Volkswagen T-Cross |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| July 2026 | 204 | 183 | 179 | — | — |
| August 2026 | — | 110 | 81 | 36 | 39 |
| September 2026 through Sep 17 | — | 47 | 53 | 18 | 15 |
The Audi models did not leave the market — they left the top of our inbox while our promoted stock leaned Volkswagen. Read the table as a mix indicator, not as a national ranking. What it shows is a buying conversation that has moved toward the cheaper end of the range.
Where this leaves a 2026 order. The $8,500–$10,000 band is thickening, and that is where availability and price competition now sit. If your plan depends on a volume price point rather than a premium badge, you will find more cars to choose from there than you would have a year ago. If your plan depends on an Audi, you are competing for a smaller pool, and you should expect to move quickly when the right unit appears.
2. Crossovers have caught up with hatchbacks
Across the whole period the two Volkswagen models most Algerians named were the Golf (758) and the T-Roc (734) — a gap of only 24 buyers. In the most recent window the T-Roc was ahead.
What the data supports is narrower than what people usually read into it. Across three consecutive windows the two names stayed within 24 mentions of each other and the crossover moved ahead in the most recent one. Why that happened is not something an inquiry list can establish: it shows who wrote to us about which model, not why they wanted it, and not how many of those buyers went on to buy anything at all. What it does show is that the crossover is no longer the minority choice in this inbox. For years the top of the list was hatchback territory, and this window it is shared.
Reading it for your next order. If your buyers ask for compact crossovers by name, the resale question is worth asking in your own market before you commit a container to it. We can tell you what we hold and what it costs, not how it will sell on your forecourt. If you are buying smaller, the Volkswagen export page covers Golf, T-Roc, T-Cross and Polo in detail, and our Volkswagen trend breakdown for Algeria goes model by model.
3. Buyers now ask about the port before they ask about the car
This is the clearest shift in the whole dataset, and it is the one worth copying.
| What the buyer raised | Algerian buyers |
|---|---|
| Shipping, port or import procedure | 7,276 |
| Price, FOB, CIF or a quotation | 6,244 |
| A budget figure in USD or EUR | 1,609 |
| Documents or certification | 1,314 |
| Customs or clearance | 552 |
| Accident history, paint, mileage, VIN | 454 |
More Algerian buyers raised shipping, the arrival port or import procedure (7,276) than raised price, FOB, CIF or asked for a quotation (6,244). The questions people assume dominate a used-car conversation, accident history, paint and VIN, were raised by 454 buyers.
What to put in writing before you compare suppliers. The number to compare between two suppliers is not the FOB figure. It is the landed figure to your port, with the origin charges listed and a sailing window named. A quote that leaves those blank is not cheaper; it is unfinished. Ask any supplier for five lines in writing: the FOB price against a specific VIN, the origin charges included, the ocean freight to your port, the resulting CIF figure, and how long the number holds. On the T-Cross we hold today the published figures are $8,500–$9,500 FOB and $11,500 CIF, and the distance between those two lines is exactly the part a quotation has to explain. Our FOB and CIF planning page explains what belongs on each line.
4. Condition became the closing question, not the opening one
Only 454 Algerian buyers opened with a condition question. But in the conversations we reviewed, condition is what the buyer comes back to, after the model, after the price, after the landed cost. It is the last thing checked and the first thing that decides whether a deal survives.
Ask for the file, not the answer. Ask for the evidence before you pay, not after the car lands. The set that actually protects you is a VIN plate photographed in the same shot as the odometer, a cold-start video with the dashboard visible, panel-by-panel paint readings, and a written list of known defects. Accident history, paint, mileage and VIN questions came up 454 times in the Algerian inquiries behind this report, and every one of them is answered by an item in that set rather than by a sentence. If a supplier cannot send that for the specific car, you are not buying a car; you are buying a model name. Our inspection service and export documents pages set out what a complete pack contains.
5. Small batch orders have become normal
858 Algerian buyers used dealer, showroom, wholesale, resale or trader wording, and 343 asked about more than one unit. The shapes coming through are specific: a 6-unit Audi A3 and Q3 request quoted CIF Algiers, a mixed 2-unit T-Roc and 2-unit Golf request for 2025 units on FOB terms, a 4-unit T-Roc request, a 4-unit T-Cross request, a 5-unit Polo request, a 4-unit Golf 8.5 request, and at the top end a first order of 12 units and a recurring requirement of around 20 units per month.
Two patterns sit inside that list. Mixed orders are common. A buyer who wants two T-Roc does not necessarily want two identical cars. And the models are the same ones at the top of the retail list, which means a buyer ordering four units is bidding against four retail buyers for the same stock.
Four units and up changes the structure. From four units upward the structure of the deal changes: you should be quoted per unit against a specific VIN, with a loading plan and the document sequence agreed before payment, and with a delivery window rather than a vague date. That is how we structure it. See dealer wholesale and Algeria export.
Reading the five shifts against an order you are placing this quarter
Put the five shifts together and the picture for this quarter is simple. The volume sits at the entry and compact end, not at the top of the range. The crossover has drawn level with the hatchback in the messages buyers write. The landed cost to your port is the number they raise more often than the sticker price, and by the time you pay, the condition file decides more of the outcome than either.
These are the units we hold today against that demand.
| Vehicle | Year | Mileage | FOB indication | CIF indication |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volkswagen T-Cross | 2023-2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $8,500–$9,500 | $11,500 |
| Volkswagen Polo | 2023-2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $10,000–$11,000 | $13,000 |
| Volkswagen TACQUA | 2023-2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $9,000–$10,000 | $12,000 |
| Geely Emgrand | 2023-2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $6,500–$7,500 | $9,500 |
| MG5 | 2023-2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $6,500–$7,500 | $9,500 |
| Volkswagen T-ROC | 2023-2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $14,000–$15,000 | $17,000 |
| Volkswagen Golf 8 | 2023-2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $14,000–$15,000 | $17,000 |
| Volkswagen GOLF8.5 | 2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $16,300–$17,300 | $19,300 |
| AUDI A3 | 2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $18,000–$19,000 | $21,000 |
| AUDI Q3 | 2023-2025 | WITHIN 30000 | $21,500–$22,500 | $24,500 |
The spread between the entry end of that list and the top is roughly $15,000 per unit on FOB terms — for cars leaving the same port on the same sailings. That is the whole point of the trend above: "a used car from China" is not one product, and the fastest way to waste money is to compare two quotes that are not describing the same kind of car.
To get a real number, send us three things: the model or the segment you want, the quantity, and your destination port. We will quote the specific units that exist today, with the charges inside the price written out. Check the live inventory if you want to see what is available right now, or start from the Algeria export page.
Questions the 2026 Algeria data raises
Should I buy a crossover or a hatchback for Algeria?
On our demand data the crossover now holds the position the hatchback used to. The T-Roc (734 buyers) finished the period within 24 mentions of the Golf (758), and was ahead in the most recent window. That is a signal about what buyers asked us for, and it is the only signal of that kind we can give you. We cannot tell you how either shape will sell on your forecourt. If your budget points to the $8,500–$10,000 band, the entry models are where the availability is.
Is the cheapest FOB price the one I should compare?
No. The buyers who raise the port before the price already know that. 7,276 Algerian buyers asked about shipping or the arrival port, against 6,244 who asked about price or a quotation. Compare the CIF figure to your port, check which origin charges sit inside it, and ask how long the number is valid before you treat it as a price.
Can I order several units at once?
Yes, and small batches are routine. We recorded 343 multi-unit requests in this period, from pairs up to recurring monthly volumes. Volume changes the per-unit price and the loading plan, so ask for a quote against your actual quantity rather than scaling a single-car price.
Where do these numbers come from?
From our own anonymised inquiry records, not from Algerian registration or customs statistics. 36,501 unique Algerian contacts between 1 January and 17 September 2026, counted by unique contact ID, closed 2026-09-17 (snapshot first-party-demand-2026-09-17). A mention means a buyer named that model in a message they started; it is interest, not an order. Inquiry volume also follows our own advertising and promoted stock, so a quiet month for us is not a quiet month for Algeria. For import rules, duties and eligibility, work from Algerian Customs rather than from a supplier page. Full method and limits: APXAUTO anonymized inquiry data.
